Your Self-Care Issues, SOLVED!

Capture

You already know self-care is important.

Take a scroll through Instagram and you'll see no shortage of posts reveling in the feel-good vibes of a luxurious bath, a warm cup of coffee on a lazy Saturday morning, and DIY conditioning hair masks.

My guess is as much as you look at those posts and think 'oooooouuu, I want that;' you're simultaneously rolling your eyes.

Raise a virtual hand if any of the following feel painfully familiar:

  • I consciously believe self-care is important but feel guilty AF taking that much time for myself
  • Self-care doesn't FIX anything, what's the point? Am I doing it wrong?
  • Maybe I'm just not doing enough, I really should be working out 6-7 days a week, and ooh, I should start a journalling practice!
  • I've got enough on my plate, I don't have room for another SHOULD

If this is resonating....

a) You are SO not alone. I hear this alllllll the time from my clients - sensitive and ambitious AF women just like you who have a burning desire for more in life and would like it to feel GOOD.

b) The answer to 99% of your self-care 'problems', resistance, and 'why isn't this working for me/I don't have time/maybe I'm doing it wrong' thoughts is....

STOP TRYING TO PERFECTIONIZE YOUR SELF-CARE.

Our society is steeped in the expectation that anything worth doing, anything that's considered 'enough' - whether it an exercise routine, a meditation practice, or learning a new professional skill, must be done 5-7 times/week, at the same time every day, consistently progressing upwards in a linear fashion.

This standard, passed down through the racist patriarchy, is an outdated model that behavior change research tells us is actually horribly ineffective for lasting results.

Not to mention trying to make ourselves fit inside this model generally leaves us feeling a big, poopy, failure.

What if instead of telling yourself that you need to workout, journal, meditate, eat healthier foods, take time to yourself, or {insert any other self-care should} 3-5x/week in order to be 'successful,' you started thinking about the woman you want to BE.

Who is the most authentic, bold, unleashed version of me?
What am I being called to step into now?
What does the healthiest, happiest, highest version of me do, feel like, think? How does she treat herself? Love on herself? Talk to herself?

What if you were to let go of the SMART goals and unrealistic expectations and on a daily basis, pause, check-in with your body, and ask, 'What choice can I make at this moment that most supports my vision?'

Meeting yourself right where you're at, honoring your needs, and taking the SMALLEST next step towards the woman you know yourself to be deep down, that's daily self-care.

What you do in that moment will look different on different days. That's not you failing to be consistent! It's you shedding another layer of conditioning, letting go of perfectionism, and truly meeting your needs.

Set the intention this week to check in with yourself at least once per day.

Notice how your body is feeling, are there any areas of tightness or tension? Have you eaten recently? Drank water? Moved your body? Let yourself actually FEEL your feelings?

Let this daily check-in be a time to meet yourself exactly where you're at and honor that - no shoulds, no massive list of everything that needs to be done, what am I feeling right now, and what do I need to best support myself?

You are ALREADY enough. And you are WORTHY of caring for yourself.
