Radicalizing Self-Care – What It Means To Actually Prioritize Caring For Yourself
'What if I just don't have time to do more for myself?'
Sometimes, the story that says 'I'm too busy, I don't have enough time,' is just that - a story.
It's a belief that we've had passed down from a culture that glorifies productivity and busyness over our own mental and emotional wellness.
It can be a story we tell ourselves to stay safe.
If we believe that we're too busy, we don't need to challenge ourselves, ask for help, or push ourselves outside of our comfort zones.
We remove the risk of trying and failing by never trying at all.
If you've found yourself saying that you're just too busy to try a new workout class, meditate, take a bath, journal, go to therapy or get coaching - anything that deep down feels truly nourishing and supportive...
Yet you're finding plenty of time throughout the day to scroll Instagram, spiral down a Tik Tok rabbit hole, and sneak in a few episodes of Netflix each night...
>>> You might be indulging a story or old belief that no longer serves you.
It might be time for you to question that old story, align your actions with your deepest desires and values, and commit to showing up for yourself.
But what about when you are genuinely in a BUSY AF season of life? If you're...
- Working 10-14 hour days,
- Attempting to work from home and manage kids' online schooling,
- Caring for loved ones, a new baby, or going through a massive life transition,
- A human finding yourself with a calendar booked solid for any reason,
You might just be straight up BUSY.
Sometimes our lives really are filled with duties and obligations to our family and work.
It can genuinely feel impossible to take even a moment to ourselves.
Recognizing that you're in a season of busy might feel validating. Maybe you're letting out a big sigh and giving yourself a little grace and compassion.
This won't last forever and doing what you need to do to get through it is ENOUGH.
Maybe you're realizing that this 'season' has turned into a non-sustainable lifestyle and it's time to make some serious changes.
Regardless of how long your season of business is going to last, YOU ARE STILL WORTHY OF CARING FOR YOURSELF THROUGH IT.
You do have time to check in with yourself at least once a day.
Take a deep breath. Place your hands on your body.
Notice how you're feeling.
Ask yourself 'What does meeting myself right here in this moment look like?
Sometimes it will be a deep breath, a 5-minute break outside, or a phone call with your BFF.
In a season of busyness, self-care may NOT look like starting a new exercise routine 5 days/week. And that is so much more than OK.
Focus on consistently checking in with yourself and you will create a foundation of unshakeable self-love.
One that will propel you forward as life gets less busy or as you make changes to create more space in your life.
Radicalizing your self-care doesn't have to mean perfectly meditating, exercising, or gratitude journaling every day of the week.
It is the process of consistently checking in with yourself - meeting yourself right where you're at and allowing that to be enough.
You are so unbelievably worthy of feeling calm, confident, and fully alive.
It is your birthright to feel presence, pleasure, and JOY in your day-to-day life.
Claim your worthiness today by checking in and meeting yourself exactly where you're at.
Here to lovingly call you into your greatness!
