The everyday word that’s secretly sabotaging you

Do you know what the most dangerous everyday word is?

It’s a word that I’m sure you use tens of times a day.

It’s also a word that causes shame, guilt, regret, and emotionally binge eating the box of cookies that you bought to last the whole week in one sitting.

This is a word that you absolutely need to remove from your vocabulary if you’re serious about really starting to feel better.

Not just better, you want to feel calm, in control, able to handle life when shit hits the fan (because it always does).

You want to feel confident and really carefree.

ALL of that starts with removing this one word that’s been sabotaging you all along.

Ya ready for it??

SHOULD

Yep. told you that you use it all the time. Should.

It seems harmless. But think for a second about the way that we use it.

I should start eating better

I should get up earlier

I should exercise

I should stop being so lazy

I should go out more

I really should call Grandma

In all of these cases, when you use the word should - it implies that you’re wrong. That you’re wrong for not already doing that thing or you’re going to be wrong in the future.

Because here’s what we’re really subconsciously thinking when we say should.

I should start eating better. Because I eat like crap now, no wonder I feel so shitty

I should get up earlier instead of being so lazy

I should exercise, it’s what healthy, hot women do. I’m such a blob.

I should stop being so lazy. Why am I like this?

I should go out more and not be such a loser, my friends probably think I’m a freak

I should call Grandma I’m such a bad granddaughter, and now that I think of it daughter, and mom, and wife.

9 out of 10 times when you use the word should, you’re telling yourself that you’re not enough.

Radical happiness, vibrant health, a life that you love - none of this comes from a place of lacking, of not enough.

To really start to take charge of your mental and physical health you have to first accept and believe that you are already good enough - exactly the way you are.

When you can come from this space, you don’t need shoulds.

‘I want’ and ‘I am’ get to replace ‘I should.’

Can’t you already see how much lighter and more joy-filled that feels?

Now it turns into, ‘hmm I think I’d like to eat more vegetables - they make me feel good.’ Or ‘I’m going to exercise today and see what my body can do.’ Or, ‘I’m going to ask so and so out for coffee, it’d feel so good to catch up.’

Eliminating shoulds means coming from a place of acceptance and recognizing that you are 100% NOT broken or needing to be fixed.

THIS mindset shift opens so many new possibilities.

Now you get to operate out of a space that says, what do I WANT to do?

What would make me feel good? What do I need right now??

So I want to challenge you today to take a look at your shoulds.

MAKE A LIST.

Write it down all of the shoulds that you have running through your head.

Ask yourself, ‘Does this come from a place of love and acceptance or is this another way of telling myself that i’m not good enough and that I need to be fixed?’

Choose love. Chose the things that make you feel GOOD.

What shoulds do you need to let go of today? Let me know in the comments!
