Does Your Body Know That She’s SAFE?
Do you ever find yourself feeling straight-up annoyed, frustrated with, or even angry at your body?
Like, girl. We're not even that old, can we chill for just a minute on the back aches, migraines, and general exhaustion?
What if that constant feeling of being on edge, the tension in your chest and shoulders, insomnia, and even the panic attacks that are starting to feel more and more common weren't just a part of getting older or your body betraying you?
If you're a human living in a sensitive body (particularly if you've experienced past trauma) many of our physical symptoms, aches, and pains, are a reflection of our bodies doing their best with a nervous system that's become chronically over engaged.
The sympathetic nervous system, responsible for our fight, flight, freeze, or fawn responses, is vital for protecting and keeping us alive in emergencies.
However, when our body begins to perceive emails, traffic, tense conversations and conflict, social interactions, or deadlines (AKA normal daily occurrences) as emergencies requiring a sympathetic nervous system response...we very quickly become tense, anxious, stressed AF, and our bodies keep the score.
An overactive nervous system and chronically stressed body can easily lead to a feeling of never doing, trying hard, or being enough.
All bodies in our hectic AF modern world, but particularly sensitive bodies need regulating.
When we create time and space to regulate our nervous systems we let our body know that she's safe. That it's OK for her to relax.
With consistent practice, our very intelligent bodies adapt to a new normal - one that's more calm, relaxed, many times less painful, and a million times more resilient.
If you find yourself regularly feeling on edge, stressed, wired but not tired, struggling to sleep, or generally just not feeling great - it's a real good indicator that your body could use a little love and a gentle reminder that in this moment she is safe.
