10 Ways to Love on Yourself This Valentine’s Day
I love chocolate, wine and romance. I love and adore my husband. I don’t love Valentine’s Day. #thereisaidit
If you do love to celebrate V-Day, girl PLEASE do you and keep on celebrating and loving it. I’m not trying to ruin anyone’s holidays.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan because I think it’s turned into a day that demands we evaluate our relationships (or lack thereof) and prove their depth and status by buying extravagant gifts.
It leaves people in relationships inauthentically evaluating their partner and people not in relationships feeling left out and less than.
Ultimately, I think it reflects the way our culture looks at love and relationships.
>>>>It sends the message that the deep, soul-connecting love that we all crave comes from one night of overpriced food, candlelight and fancy flowers. <<<
It tells the story that love is something we have or we don’t.
The thing is, love isn’t all or nothing. Love can include flowers and diamond earrings but that’s just the cherry on top.
The foundation of real, deep love (platonic or romantic) are intentional choices that are made hundreds of times a day.
It’s the way you actively and non-judgmentally listen about their day and what’s on their mind
It’s the way you unconditionally support them when they mess up or fall short
It’s the way you go out of your way to make them feel loved and special
And ultimately, the way that we love everyone else in our lives is a reflection of the way that we love ourselves.
We can’t love ourselves conditionally and only on our good days and expect to not do the same in our relationships.
We can’t hold ourselves to completely unrealistic expectations, put ourselves down for every little thing, and give until we’re empty and then be able to show our love for the people in our lives or truly receive theirs.
Radical self-love and acceptance is also a daily choice.
Loving yourself is work. It’s a daily choice of self-acceptance, kindness, and compassion that is hard AF sometimes. The way that you love on yourself shines through in every single relationship you have.
So should you let the people in your life know that you love them? SO MUCH YES. All the time.
Can you make a special day out of it? Have at it!
Should you also prioritize loving the f*ck out of yourself? Yes, yes and yes.
Here are 10 quick and easy ideas to get the ‘Loving on Yo’self Party’ started.
Choose radical self-love daily.
And then go to your fancy dinner, Galentine's party, or cozy Netflix night and enjoy the hell out of it.
- Block off whitespace - actually schedule time in your calendar for you to do NOTHING except breathe and be you. If you find this uncomfortable it’s even more of a sign that it’s exactly what you need.
- Slap on the facemask, slowly rub a delicious smelling lotion into your hands, fill your tub with Epsom salts, candles, and oils - remind yourself that you’re worth it.
- Stand in front of the mirror, look deeply into your own eyes and without looking away, repeat ‘I love you exactly the way you are. You are so much more than enough.’ ten times.
- Find a quiet space, take 10 minutes and meditate. Use a guided meditation or simply focus on your breath moving in and out of your belly, repeating the mantra ‘I am safe, I am loved, I am enough.’
- Pour yourself a glass of wine or tea, light the candles, turn on your favorite tunes and settle in for a visioning and goal planning session - nourish your dreams and desires.
- Take your time, grab some lotion and touch yourself all over. Linger on your breasts and your pussy. Make love to yourself.
- Buy a rich and delicious piece of chocolate. Break a piece off and smell it, touch it to your lips, place it on your tongue and allow it to slowly melt in your mouth.
- Wash your sheets, set up a diffuser and twinkle lights in your bedroom and get to bed early. Don’t set an alarm.
- Do your hair and makeup. Pick out or buy an outfit that makes you feel completely YOURSELF and wear it, even if you have nowhere to go.
- Journal out your thoughts as they come. Allow yourself to admit what’s really on your mind and just BE in that space. Give yourself permission to laugh, cry, dance, or sit quietly.
